Event Chair Comparison — Which Chair Should You Buy?
Six chair models, one page. If you are choosing between a Chiavari and a Phoenix, or between a Bentwood and a Cross Back, the difference is mostly in the back design — the frames, stacking and handling are similar.
Everything below is our own production data, not a reseller catalogue. Dimensions and weights are measured on our own moulds; where a model does not have a fixed published specification, we say so instead of guessing.

The four comparisons people actually ask about
Chiavari vs Phoenix
Same family, different back. Both are round-backed banquet chairs in PP resin, both stack the same way and both take the same cushions. The Chiavari uses the classic ladder back with straight vertical bars; the Phoenix uses interlocking open rings. Chiavari reads traditional and formal, Phoenix reads modern and a little more decorative.
Choose Chiavari if…
- • Your client expects the classic wedding look
- • The venue is a traditional ballroom or marquee
- • You want the widest colour range including crystal
Choose Phoenix if…
- • The venue is a modern hotel or corporate space
- • You want a silhouette that photographs differently
- • Your fleet already has Chiavari and needs variety
Bentwood vs Cross Back
These two are the most commonly confused pair on the market. The Bentwood chair has a three-arch bentwood back — three curved arches — and weighs 4.7 kg. The Cross Back chair uses a straighter X-brace back, weighs 5 kg and has a slightly wider seat at 48.5 cm. Both use a wood-grain finish over a PP frame, so neither needs oiling, sanding or repainting.
Choose Bentwood if…
- • The brief is rustic, vineyard or farmhouse
- • You want the lighter chair at 4.7 kg
- • The styling is soft and curved rather than angular
Choose Cross Back if…
- • You need the toughest option for rental turnover
- • Guests are larger — the seat is wider at 48.5 cm
- • You want the lower cost per chair in volume
Louis vs everything else
The Louis chair is the only model here with a carved oval back and a choice of natural rattan or upholstered back. It is also the heaviest at 6.5 kg and the most expensive to produce. It is not a fleet chair — it is a statement chair. Planners typically use Louis for the head table and a lighter model for guest seating.
Choose Louis if…
- • The event is luxury, French-style or photo-led
- • The chair is a visible design element
- • You are seating a head table, not 300 guests
Choose something else if…
- • The chairs will be loaded and unloaded weekly
- • Storage space is tight — Louis is bulky
- • The budget is per-head, not per-table
Folding vs fixed-frame
This is a logistics decision, not an aesthetic one. Folding chairs fold flat at 78 × 44 × 39 cm, stack tightly and are the fastest to set up and strike. Fixed-frame chairs look better and feel more solid. Rental companies usually carry both: fixed-frame for the reception, folding for overflow, outdoor backup and ceremonies on uneven ground.
Folding wins when…
- • You run outdoor ceremonies or temporary seating
- • Storage is measured in square metres, not rooms
- • Crew time is your biggest cost
Fixed-frame wins when…
- • The chairs are part of the visual design
- • Clients judge quality by how the chair feels
- • The same chairs serve many events with few strikes
Material comparison
All six chair models are built on resin or metal frames. The material choice affects weight, weather resistance, maintenance and how convincing the finish looks up close.
PP resin
Used on: Chiavari, Phoenix, folding
- Strengths
- Light, strong, weather-resistant, holds a metallic-look or solid colour finish well
- Watch
- Heavier colour matching to Pantone may need a sample round
PP with wood-grain finish
Used on: Bentwood, Cross Back
- Strengths
- Wood look without wood maintenance — no cracking, no warping, no repainting
- Watch
- Grain pattern varies slightly between production runs
Natural rattan / upholstered
Used on: Louis
- Strengths
- Highest perceived value, photographs well, premium feel
- Watch
- Rattan is a natural material — protect from prolonged rain and direct sun
Metal frame folding
Used on: Folding
- Strengths
- Fastest to set up and strike, stacks flat, lowest storage footprint
- Watch
- Check frame coating if the chairs will live outdoors
| Material | Used on | Strengths | Watch out for |

How many chairs to order
For a wedding or one-off event: order roughly 1.1× your confirmed guest count. A 200-guest wedding needs about 220 chairs — the buffer covers the head table, reserved seats and late additions. At 8–10 guests per table, 200 guests means 20–25 tables.
For a rental company: stock to your peak weekend demand plus about 30% buffer. If your busiest weekend needs 500 chairs, hold around 650 so you are not cleaning and turning around your entire fleet between events.
For a hotel or venue: size to your largest bookable room, not your average event. Chairs that live in storage cost nothing per event; chairs you have to sub-rent cost margin every time.
Minimum order is 50 pieces per colour, and models and colours can be mixed within one order — so a first order can cover several room setups rather than one.
